On May 11th , Chair of the APIIC, Tony Sardella, spoke at the Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Hearing: “Examining the Root Causes of Drug Shortages: Challenges in Pharmaceutical Drug Supply Chains” in Washington D.C.
During the hearing, Sardella addressed the economic viability of the generic pharmaceutical industry, the dire implications of price erosion in generic medications and the coordinated approach between the public and private sectors that could lead to the de-risking of advanced manufacturing technologies. Sardella also touched on the need to strengthen our domestic manufacturing capabilities and the existing infrastructure that could be repurposed to produce over 30 billion doses of essential and critical medicines within two years.
