Project Manager

The API Innovation Center seeks an experienced Project Manager who will be responsible for planning and overseeing the development of pharmaceutical active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and finished drug products to ensure they are completed in a timely fashion and within budget. The successful candidate will be able to lead a team, monitor project progress, keep stakeholders informed, designate resources, set deadlines, problem-solve and manage a budget.

The API Innovation Center is a nonprofit public benefit organization headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, dedicated to revolutionizing pharmaceutical development through cutting-edge chemical and semi-synthetic research. By developing and leveraging advanced manufacturing technologies, the API Innovation Center aims to create sustainable and efficient routes for producing vital pharmaceuticals in the U.S. Through investments in and collaboration along the supply chain, the API Innovation Center’s model contracts leading U.S.-based specialists within their pharmaceutical ecosystem to develop and manufacture APIs, ensuring high-quality domestically produced pharmaceuticals. 


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Behave ethically: Understand ethical behavior and business practices and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and align with the values of the organization.
  • Collaborate with management and project team to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans that outline timeline, milestones, and key tasks.
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams, including API development and manufacturing partners.
  • Coordinate with project team to identify resources needed to reach objectives and manage resources in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Provide regular project updates to stakeholders, ensuring clear and timely communication.
  • Prepare and oversee project budgets, ensuring projects stay within financial parameters.
  • Schedule, convene and facilitate project work group meetings; assign and follow up on action items.
  • Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables.
  • Work with Project Lead to oversee the collection and maintenance of records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field. PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent certification.
  • 5+ years of project management experience, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects in a regulated environment (e.g., GMP, FDA).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities with a strategic and analytical mindset.
